Welcome to Transition Training Team
History
For many years, the core founders of The Transition Training Team dedicated their hearts and time to volunteering with The Twilight Brigade, Compassion in Action. This national non-profit organization, based out of the West Los Angeles, VA Hospital, was born in 1997 from the compassionate vision of Dannion Brinkley, best selling author of Saved by the Light as well as other books. Dannion recognized a profound and heartbreaking need: veterans who were dying alone in hospitals and nursing homes. He, with the help of others, created a three-day intensive training program designed to teach hospice volunteers how to provide a loving presence at the bedside of those transitioning from this world.
At the heart of The Twilight Brigade was Sandy Hatfield, the National Training Director. Sandy was more than just a director; she was the glue that held the organization together, a beacon of compassion and strength. Her passing in 2021 was a tremendous loss, causing the organization to come to a halt. Of course Covid didn’t help either.
But in 2024, from the seeds of the past, a new vision blossomed. The idea emerged to take the best parts of the original 3 day training and distill them into a one-day program with a new mission.
We recognized the urgent need to equip Caregivers with the tools and support they require when a loved one is preparing to leave this world.
Our new training program, in honor of Sandy, was developed with a singular mission: To empower and educate Caregivers, ensuring they are prepared and capable of approaching a loved one’s transition with compassion, empathy and grace. We understand that almost everyone will find themselves in the role of a Caregiver at some point, and our training provides the guidelines and emotional support needed to navigate this sacred journey with grace and love.
